Pool & Waterpark Lifeguard Award
The Pool & Waterpark Award (PWA) is based on International confined water lifeguard training standards.
The course is structured to provide the rescue and prevention skills for staff that attend to swimming pools or similar aquatic facilities.
Course Entry Requirements
- Minimum age of 16 years
- Minimum swimming ability required
- 2 minutes water treading
- 2m under water object retrieval
- 200m non stop swim in under 4 minutes
Course Content
- Public relations
- Safety and control of activities around an aquatic facility
- Recognition of potential risks
- Land based water rescues
- Water rescues with and without equipment
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Basic first aid - level one
- Resuscitation (adult, child & infants)
- Spinal injury management
- Medical emergency scene management
Course Duration
A minimum instruction period of 40 hours (5 days) is required per group of candidates. Instruction is divided into sessions that have a 60% practical and 40% theoretical content.
Candidate Evaluation and Certification
The candidates are evaluated on all aspects of the award with the duration of the evaluation being approximately 3 hours. Certification is valid for a period of three years pending the successful completion of the annual revaluation.
