Basic Life Support
The Lifeguard Academy facilitates internationally accredited Basic Life Support (BLS) training which is structured to meet the needs of health care professionals and emergency response personnel who in the line of duty will be called upon to deliver life support treatment and resuscitation to a casualty with the aid of resuscitation equipment.
Course Entry Requirements
- Minimum of 18 yrs of age
- Current Lifeguard of First Aid Qualification
Course Content
- The Universal Chain of Survival
- Recognition of cardiac and respiratory emergency conditions
- Basic resuscitation barrier devices
- Advanced resuscitation equipment
1. Resuscitation Pocket Masks
2. Bag / Valve / Mask (BVM)
3. Oxygen Therapy
4. Automated External Defibrillation (AED) - Airway Management
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
1. Importance and principals of early defibrillation
2. Operation of an AED
3. Special operational AED conditions
4. Paediatric Basic Life Support
Course duration - 6 - 8 hours
